Thanks for your support. I'm settling in at Woodhill. You have asked me a lot of questions. The politics of food? Well, it's all about profit. That's why we have live exports and a 140,000 tonnes of potatoes going to Germany and the same amount coming back. When the Irish were starving to death due to the potato famine, Britain was exporting more food from Ireland than they have ever done. Our whole economy is run on cheap labour and crops from third world countries. It's modern day slavery that enables us to live the way we do.
I think veganism will answer a lot of the world's future problems. The shortage of water and grain could be eradicated by the world going vegan. We can't force this on people but the future problems with the environment, deforestation and water supplies becoming low will force people to change.
I hate injustice which is why I am opposed to animal abuse. To me, abuse against someone because of their race, colour or beliefs is unacceptable. I extend this to every living creature. When I am told that animal abuse is within the law I think of slavery, child labour and concentration camps. Most laws are put in place to enable business to continue making a profit.
I think everyone has to do what they can to make changes. Animal liberation not only helps the individual animal but brings awareness to what is really going on in the world.
Prison is the price some people have to pay. A question everyone should ask is this. “Are you against it?” If the answer is “yes” then no excuse should get in your way.
In Britain prison life for a vegan is quite good. I have vegan food and my beliefs are respected by staff and fellow prisoners. I have access to the gym and library. In my free time I play pool and chess. I have 3 children and I've only seen 2 of them once in the past month and that is something that hurts me. But I still phone them and write most days.
Have run out of space. Bye for now.
Love, Don. x
