Dear Abolitionist,
Just a quick note as I want to get to you before the next issue goes up. June, I believe. You recently wrote to Garfield Gabbard and he's asked me to write and up-date you with his new prison details. (see above)
I'll send him a sae for him to write back to you. He's very short on stamps at the moment because you can't send just loose stamps, just sae's.
Enclosed is a press cutting. Garfield was sentenced on18/05/2006 to 21 months immediate custody with a 15 month extended licence.
He's doing ok, cheered up no end by letters of support. He also gets help from a group in the UK called Vegan Prisoners Support Group (VPSG) who liaise with prison to see his diet is 100% vegan and toiletries are not tested on animals, etc.
Here's that press cutting:
Animal Test Centre
Protester In Court
A political activist denied assault causing actual bodily harm after allegedly kicking a security guard during a protest at an animal-testing centre.
Garfield Gabbard 42, of Queens Parade, Scarborough , admitted a lesser charge of affray on political grounds at York Crown Court.
The prosecution claimed Gabbard had threatened unlawful violence on October 12 last year after jumping on cars at Covance, an animal testing centre in Harrogate , while trying to stop workers driving away.
It was alleged he kicked a security guard in the foot as he tried to pull him off a car bonnet.
Sentencing was adjourned until April 21 and Gabbard was warned not to go near the testing centre in the meantime.
