The Lecce Five have been charged with "subversive association" accused of damaging Esso petrol pumps to appose the War on Iraq ; sabotaging the cash machines of a bank which funds an immigrantion centre; and targeting the multinational company Benetton in support of Mapuche land rights activists in Chile . Two of the defendants are on remand.

I received your letter some days ago but it's taken a while to answer you because I write in a bad English. I don't know it very well, so I sent your letter to my comrade to translate it. She is translating this answer too because I am writing it in Italian.

I must say to you that, if you want, I can send you a letter with a description of my situation and my prison life. Even if I and my comrades aren't here on animal liberation charges, but we are here because we took on a struggle against detention centers for irregular immigrants. I know, in Australia too, there are struggles and mobalisons against detention centers, the Woomera case, I think was the most famous, some years ago. But as anarchists we are interested in many other matters. For example, the war in Iraq , the occupation of Mapuche's lauds in South America , pollution and animal liberation. If you are only interested in letters about animal liberation, I think you should contact some of my other comrades that are now under arrest and took on struggles for this matter. I'm not vegan, only vegetarian and this is a problem in many Italian prisons because this choice and this need isn't recognized.

About animals, we speak of animal liberation. In many countries institutions and associations speak of “animal rights”, but we, as anarchists think that rights include some categories and exclude other categories, creating inclusion and exclusion.

About sending anything, don't worry. Don't send me anything such as pens and papers because they won't give it to me.
