Dear All Like Minded Folk,
Being in animal rights and being vegan go hand-in-hand. I went vegan the day I decided to take up this fight. I went around the house, gathering up my leather boots, jumpers made from wool and toiletries which were all unsatisfactory. The whole lot went into the bin bag and thrown out. The fridge and pantry took on a different look too. I have been veggie but that really wasn't good enough. In the last 7 years I have campaigned legally most of the time – hence writing from prison!
Being a good example to Joe Public is important to look smart and organized, fit and healthy. Because I am fit and healthy, others want to follow and because they are curious for what we stand for. People support the passion from which I speak and act upon.
I was young when I drove past a shed that was full of broiler chickens (the white ones for their flesh). I drove passed it for a few seconds then stopped. I jumped the fence, the door was open already, picked up the nearest 2 chickens and ran back to my car – heart racing with adrenaline – with fear and fury! Deeply upset by those left behind.
This is why we do it. No more to say. Keep up the fight.
Sarah.
